Coming soon to La Fontaine in Denver! We are the first Medical Practice in Colorado to receive Defyne. Restylane Defyne is a hyaluronic acid filler from the Restylane family of products. FDA-approved in December 2016 and expected to be released in 2017, it is approved for the correction of deeper wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).

What makes Restylane Defyne different from other hyaluronic acid fillers?

Restylane Defyne is a smooth gel that provides good support of deeper wrinkles. In clinical studies, it was shown to be quite comfortable during injection as numbing medication called lidocaine is mixed into the filler itself. Because of how the hyaluronic acid stands within Restylane Defyne are bonded together, the gel is smooth and integrates well into the area of injection. Also due to its filler structure, Restylane Defyne may provide a longer duration and allow less swelling than some previous fillers used for wrinkle reduction.

Since it is a more robust filler, Dr. Oleszek uses it to provide structure and support to areas of the face that have lost volume over time. The marionette folds, cheeks, jawline and even the temples may be appropriate areas of placement.

Restylane Defyne is used as a foundational hyaluronic acid filler, addressing deeper volume loss in a manner to other injectable fillers and volumizers such as Restylane Lyft, Voluma(Perlane) or Sculptra. Any of these products can be used with finer fillers (Restylane Refyne or Silk) to accentuate small areas of needed correction to subtle lines.

Is there downtime?

There is typically mild to minimal swelling following your treatment. While individual results may vary, most patients experience minimal to mild swelling for a day or two. Most patients can resume daily social activities same day.

As with any dermal filler, there is a chance of bruising. Patients should avoid medications such as fish oils or tylenol or vitamins that thin your blood one week prior to your appointment.

Does it hurt?

There is typically minimal pain during Restylane Defyne placement. Restylane Defyne is manufactured with numbing (lidocaine) pre-incorporated into the filler. Additionally, Dr. Palm takes extra steps to make sure every patient is comfortable during injection. Use of cannulas (blunt-shaped very small tubes) may be used to inject the product instead of needles. Also, topical numbing, ice, and even numbing or dental blocks with lidocaine may be provided to increase patient comfort if desired.

Can it be combined with other fillers or procedures?

Yes. It may be used with other hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm, or with other injectable fillers such as Sculptra to create a liquid face lift, a term we use when restoring facial volume and structure related to aging changes or genetics. Additionally, injectable fillers may be used in combination with skin tightening devices to further improve facial balance. Botox or Dysport are often used in conjunction with fillers like Restylane Defyne to relax areas of overactive muscle movement.
