Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat visible telangiectasias (spider veins) and small varicose veins near the surface of the skin. A sclerosant solution is injected into the veins, causing them to shrink, close off and eventually disappear. To the surprise of many, sclerotherapy patients report little if any discomfort. The majority of patients that have sclerotherapy performed will see the veins cleared or significant improvement.

The number of treatments needed to clear or improve the condition differs from patient to patient, depending on the extent of veins present. One to six treatments may be needed, with the average being 1 to 4 treatments.

Advantages of Sclerotherapy include:

  • No down-time
  • Less likely to stain skin
  • Long-lasting results
  • Fewer allergic reactions
  • No scarring
  • Positive cosmetic appearance
