What is DermaRoller?

It is a cylindrical shaped drum studded with fine needles. It is run over the treated skin causing micro-punctures that break up scars and stimulate skin cells to proliferate. This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibres (neo-collagenesis) as well as in new capillaries for an improved blood supply (neo-angiogenesis). This procedure improves the appearance of stretch marks, as well as sun damage and wrinkles on the face.

What are the side effects of a DermaRoller procedure?

Patients will have some redness and swelling for 2-3 days and maybe some oozing the first night.

Are there risks of post-op infections?

Since the tiny pricking channels close within minutes, and provided the procedure is done under clinical conditions, post-op infections are very unlikely. None were ever reported after far over 150,000 procedures. If an infection develops, the patient will need to see Dr. Oleszek asap to be given a prescription for antibiotics.

What is the down time after a Dermaroller treatment?

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly with in hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 1 to 2 days in average, depending on the pigments of the individual.

In order to reduce that redness visibly, we recommend 3 hours after the procedure, but latest next morning, to cover it with the SUN SCREEN SPF30 that contains a mineral camouflage made from red and yellow iron oxides.

Has Dermaroller same effect like fractional laser?

Yes, the DermaRoller can have similar effects as the fractional lasers. Generally, the DermaRoller is associated with less pain and side effects, but may not provide as much collagen stimulation as the fractional laser. This may provide the fractional laser with more skin improvement, but you pay with more pain, down time and cost.
