Advanced Wrinkle Treatments

There are 3 basic type of wrinkles – dynamic, static and fine wrinkles often called ‘crepe paper’ skin.

Dynamic wrinkles are the lines that come and go with muscle use. They are more prominent with the use of muscles or the making of facial expressions, such as smiling or frowning. These lines, over time, will become permanent. The most common areas for dynamic wrinkles are: between the eyebrows ,”the 11″, the outside of the eyes (crow’s feet), the forehead and the upper lip lines.

Botox and Dysport has had a dramatic impact on the treatment of these lines, and not only can Botox diminish these lines, but it can also prevent them. Sometimes, when the lines have deepened, dermal fillers such as Restylane can be used along with Botox.

Static wrinkles are lines that are not affected by facial expressions. As these lines deepen, they are then called ‘folds.’ Common areas are the nasolabial fold (from the nose to the corner of the mouth) and the marrionette lines (the lines on the outside of the mouth downwards). Fillers (Restylane, Radiesse, Bellafill and Sculptra) are used most commonly to treat these lines.

Crepe paper skin is a common complaint we see here at La Fontaine Aesthetics. Thinning of the skin causes these fine wrinkles. Multiple techniques are used to treat these lines, with the first being a prescription retinoid cream (Retin-A), that will make the skin thicker and more healthy. Retin-A usually will show improvement over the first several months.

A regular program of chemical peels and microdermabrasion stimulates the skin to increase thickness, thus decreasing the appearance of lines. Dermal fillers, such as, Restylane can be used to stretch the skin and increase the underlying support of the skin. Sculptra adds volume to the skin and can reduce small smile lines and fine lines on the cheek. The most dramatic changes can be seen with Laser Skin Resurfacing. Fractional Lux 1540 has significant results after a series of 3 to 6 sessions with only minimal redness and swelling for 1 to 2 days after each treatment. The MiXto fractional CO2 can give dramatic results after 1 or 2 treatments. This treatment removes a fraction of the top layer of skin and allows the skin to tighten and regenerate a new less wrinkled appearance. The MiXto Fractional CO2 usually requires 5 to 7 days of post-procedure down-time
